THE CONTEST

The objective of this photo contest is to create awareness worldwide of the meaning behind Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) and its linkages to food security. The contest will harness photo talent from around the world in order to illustrate and convey the many linkages between REDD+ and Food. Photographers can submit individual photos inspired by the theme:Nurture forests for the future -Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) for Food Security.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) within the UN-REDD Programmebelieves that REDD+ can also ensure food security through good agriculture practices, biodiversity conservation, livelihoods diversification, good governance and better land management. That is exactly what we would like you to capture through your lenses!

The UN-REDD Programme, a collaborative initiative between FAO the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this year is celebrating its 5^th anniversary supporting countries in implementing REDD+  as a way to create an incentive for developing countries to protect, better manage and wisely use their forest resources, contributing to the global fight against climate change.

This can become a powerful and stunning image!

The image should depict one or more of the following activities:

• Farmers producing more on less land using agro-ecosystems and thus avoiding clearance of new forest
• Good agricultural practices: such as agroforestry, alley cropping, agrosilvipastoral, inter cropping of trees and crops, trees produced on farms, tree apiculture, trees on pasture, etc
• Protected areas, forest reserves, conservation
• Forest dependant people in forest ecosystems, especially women and indigenous peoples
• Trees as suppliers of fruits, edible leaves, nuts, medicine, etc
• Livelihoods diversification and good land management.

How do trees connect to food security? Forests and trees are sources of food for millions of the world’s poorest people.

What does REDD+ look like? REDD+ is about keeping trees standing and managing our forests in a sustainable way.



JUDGING

A shortlist of the best 25 photos submitted to the contest will be selected to be presented during an exhibit at the International Conference on Forests for Food Security and Nutrition 13-15 May 2013 to be held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The selected photos will also be used for future communications material (printed information material, dissemination of information through social media and website with information on REDD+ topics, etc).

Earth Day Asia Instagram Photo Contest

As we celebrate Earth Day and the environment around us, The Asia Foundation is looking for your compelling photos that exemplify what the environment in Asia means to you. For example: What is your favorite natural environment or resource? What’s at stake or threatened in Asia’s environment? Images will be judged by our in-house photographer and the winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2013. The Asia Foundation will prominently feature the winning photographs with credits on Facebook and Instagram.

Global photo contest "WORK4YOUTH" by ILO

The ILO Youth Employment Programme is organizing a photo contest to shed light on youth employment issues, the challenges young people face in the workplace as well as their power to overcome them. Zoom in for the top prize!

The ILO Youth Employment Programme is launching a photo contest focusing on young people at work. The photo contest has been organized in partnership with the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team and Country Office for Central and Eastern Europe in Budapest, and financed by The MasterCard Foundation.

The objective of the contest is to highlight the challenges young people face in the workplace, as well as innovative ideas to address them. Photos submitted by participants should capture youth at work (in different places and under various conditions) in a creative and original manner. Photographers are invited to focus specifically on working conditions, gender barriers, discrimination, informality, entrepreneurship, working poverty, migration, precarious work, and the rural economy, among others. 

A jury will award a total of five prizes in two categories:
Global: A selection made from all photo entries
1) Best photo: USD 10002) Second best photo: USD 5003) Youth prize (entries of persons aged 18-29 years): USD 800
Regional: A selection made from photo entries from the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region
4) CEE best photo: USD 10005) CEE youth prize (entries of persons aged 18-29 years): USD 800
The winning photos will be displayed in an online photo exhibition.
Participants are invited to submit up to a maximum of five photos per person by no later than 15 April 2013 at 23:59 (European Central Time) with the Official Entry Form. Submissions from all around the world are welcome.

ASEAN – Korea Multimedia Competition 2012

ASEAN – KOREA Centre will hold the 2012 ASEAN – Korea Multimedia Competition for young artists including university/graduate students of ASEAN and Korea. The competition is organized to provide a channel for cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the young generation of ASEAN an Korea through new media. Photo Contest: UN Plus 2013 Calendar

UN Plus is holding a photo contest as part of the process to create its 2013 Calendar. All UN staff including fixed-term staff, staff on temporary assignments, consultants, fellows and interns are encouraged to send us their photographs under the theme of Access to Healthcare for All.Images need not be limited to HIV and could, for instance, include conditions such as diabetes or cancer.

The winning photos will be used for the 2013 UN Plus Calendar and also featured in an exhibition that is planned towards the end of this year at the UNAIDS Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Please see Prize for more details.

Eligibility: UN staff – including fixed term staff, staff on temporary assignments, consultants, fellows and interns.

Submission Deadline: August 26 2012, Midnight (Central European Time)

Photo Requirements: High-Resolution – Must be RGB, JPEG images 300 dpi or higher.

Submission Requirements: The photos must be submitted to UN Plus at unplus@unaids.org as attachments by deadline with the subject line: UN Plus Photo Contest (max. 2 photos per contestant)

The following information MUST accompany the photograph to be eligible for entry:

1. Photographer’s name
2. Contact email address of person submitting photograph.
3. UN Organization
4. Photo Caption indicating who is in the photo (if there is anybody), what they were doing, where photo was taken and approximate date of photo.
5. Title of the photograph (if any)
6. Signed model release form if the photograph includes a recognizable face of a person. (If the model is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign the release). A copy of the model release form UN Plus Photo Release Form.

By submitting photos, submitting person acknowledges that: Photographer/copyright holder has released photo for use by UN Plus and UNAIDS.

Choosing the Winners

Once the deadline for applications has passed (Aug 26), the eligible photos will be uploaded to a contest page for public voting (NB: URL for the public voting page will be communicated on the UN Plus website and the UN Plus Facebook page on August 27) and it will be possible to vote for your preferred images. Voting will take place over a 21 day period and will be open to the public, so don’t hesitate to invite your friends (even non-UN staff) to vote. Please note that only those photographs that meet the above-mentioned requirements will be uploaded for the online voting.

After the 21 days of voting, a shortlist consisting of the 30 photographs with the most votes will be submitted to a jury of 3 independent photographers, who will make the final selection. These photographs will be judged on their artistic value and relevance to the theme of the contest.

Prize:

• Winning photos will be used for the 2013 UN Plus Calendar, which will be distributed widely worldwide, within and outside of the UN system.
• Winning photos will be featured in an exhibition at the UNAIDS Headquarters in Geneva, as well as on a dedicated online gallery.
• Winning photographers will be credited in the calendar.
• Winning photographers will receive 10 copies of the calendar.

And remember the theme: Access to Healthcare for All (not limited to HIV).

Make your image as artistic as you wish, as long as the underlying meaning can be related to the calendar’s theme
